Installation Instructions

The setup is multilingual and contains the english and as well the german version of GetPat@Web. It is possible to switch the language of GetPat@Web even after its installation.

These Installation Instructions can also be found as text file in the unzipped setup download.

As first step, you should check if there is already a suitable JRE version installed on your machine. However, you may skip the following first two steps if you have access to a fast internet connection. In this case you may directly go to step 3 and choose the "GetPat@Web with JRE" download (zip or exe).

1. Point to Start -> Programs and select Comand Prompt (or point to Start -> Programs -> Accessories and select Comand Prompt respectively).

2. Type "java -version" (without the enclosing quotation marks) into the opened Command Prompt and confirm with the return key. If "1.4.2" (or higher) is displayed as version then a suitable JRE version is already installed. In this case you may choose the "GetPat@Web without JRE" download (zip or exe).

Note - you must have administrative permissions in order to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

3. Select, according to the instructions above, one of the following download files:

GetPat@Web Version 1.2.1 without JRE as self extracting exe file (approx. 8 MB): Download
GetPat@Web Version 1.2.1 with JRE as self extracting exe file (approx. 20 MB): Download

GetPat@Web Version 1.2.1 without JRE as zip file (approx. 8 MB): Download
GetPat@Web Version 1.2.1 with JRE as zip file (approx. 20 MB): Download

4a. Setup Exe: Save the chosen file into a temporary directory, e.g. "C:\Temp". Start the exe file and click "OK".

or

4b. Setup Zip: Unzip the chosen file into a temporary directory, e.g. "C:\Temp".

5. Open the created subdirectory, e.g. "C:\Temp\GetPatAtWeb-Setup-101" and start the contained setup.exe file.

6a. If a suitable JRE was already installed, then the "Language selection" will be displayed. In this case just continue with step 9.

6b. If a JRE is installed which is too old then this message will be displayed:

The application that you are trying to install requires

a 1.4.2 version or later of the Java platform.

You are running a <x.y.z> version of the Java platform.

Please upgrade to a newer version.

Optionally you may now first uninstall the old JRE using the Microsoft Windows

Add/Remove Programs utility, accessible from the Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel).

To install the new JRE version, open the "jre" subdirectory of the extracted GetPatAtWeb setup, e.g. "C:\Temp\GetPatAtWeb-Setup-101\jre" (if this directory should be empty then please repeat the instructions above starting with step 3, now choosing the "GetPat@Web with JRE" setup for download).

Run the j2re-1_4_2-windows-i586.exe and continue with step 7.

6c. If no JRE is installed then a window with the message "The software that you are trying to install requires a Java Runtime Environment" will be displayed. Select the 2nd option "automatically install the Java Runtime Environment included with this software" and confirm with "Ok" in order to run the JRE setup.

However, if an error message, e.g. "Could not launch the JRE installation process" is shown then please repeat the instructions above starting with step 3, now choosing the "GetPat@Web with JRE" setup for download.

7. Follow the instructions the JRE installer provides. When done, the installer may ask you to reboot your computer.

8. Repeat (if requested after the reboot) the above instructions starting with step 5.

9. If you want to run the english setup, then open the combo box of the "Language selection" window and select the "eng" entry (the selected flag becomes colored). Note that the selected language will also be used as default language for GetPat@Web. However, the language of GetPat@Web can be changed even after the installation using the Options menu of GetPat@Web.

10. Click OK and follow the instructions the GetPat@Web setup provides.

11. When done with the installation, you can delete the downloaded file and the created subdirectory from the temporary directory in order to recover disk space.

Uninstall of GetPat@Web

Important Note:

The window of the uninstaller offers a checkbox with the following or similar text:
